I’d like to start training my body physically to prepare myself for Marine Corps Boot Camp. I know that their PFT consists of pull-ups and crunches, but for those of you who have recently gone through Boot Camp or who still remember their days at Boot Camp, tell me what physical fitness exercises the the Drill Instructors made you do.

I’m guessing they will also make us do push-ups and then a whole lot of running. But I’m not sure what else. Maybe squats or jumping jacks. Anyway, if there are some exercises with a special name, please try to explain how to do the exercise, and for all the other ones I’ll just look up on Google how to do them. I’d **** to go into Boot Camp and have the Drill Instructor tell me to do something and not knowing what he is talking about. Thanks for the help.

I was in the army infantry so we do the same stuff. Basic will be easy for the most part. You will do harder pt once you go to your duty station, that is if your infantry. You will do side studdle hops (jump n jacks), mule kicks,(jump up and have heels touch **** before you hit ground) bear crawl, crab walk, jogging a lot, sprints, ropes, push ups(close, regular, and spread) , flutter kicks(on back lifting legs one at a time), front back go’s(run in place,go on back and do flutter kicks, than jog in place again), Pressing the air(moving your arms down and up) this hurts after a while). There are tons of others, but these are the main ones I can think of now. JUst so you know I was in infantry for a while, got out last year) But you should be fine expect them to treat you like a dumass, dont act like a know it all, or else they will make you do more pt, and they may make others do more pt thanks to you. You will have a blast though, good luck!

You will do push ups, jumping jacks (Side Straddle Hops) Monkey fuckers, mountain climbers, pull ups, crunches, hello dolly’s, flutter kicks, dips, squats, and running. The Drill Instructors are pretty creative, so they may find more for you to do, but those i listed are the core of what you will do.

I went through Marine Boot camp in 1987. It may have changed some since then but you can expect to do all kinds of uncomfortable, exhausting exercises. Some of these DI’S are very creative in their torturing of recruits.
They used to make us do something called “Island Hopping”. Each barracks at San Diego, and I assume Parris Island as well has a sand pit in front of it. When you “Island hop” the DI takes you to each sand pit (this is the island) and makes you do some exercise in each one. Of course you run from island to island. That was a killer. You are soon covered in sweat, then you roll around in the sand and it sticks to you which adds more discomfort to every move you make.
They used to make us hold our M-16 rifle straight out in front of ourselves for what seemed like hours. Im sure it was probably 15 or 20 minutes at most. Every time a guy started to drop his arms and lower his rifle the DI would let us have it.
8 count body builders, mountain climbers, and bend and thrusts were some of the more dreaded exercises.

don’t worry about what exercises your going to do…make sure you can run, do crunches and pullups, and make sure you have high endurance cause they’ll try to run you to the ground. as for exercises, they’ll teach you all the ones you don’t know. everything is going to help those 3 major ones for the physical fitness test (PFT)

The British Newpaper “The Guardian” is printing details of the British Army basic fitness in 16 weeks.
Have a look at,,2230720,00.html

This is only basic fitness, but it should give you an excellent idea where to start.
