If I’m eating to get in shape I’ll usually eat 5 small meals per day. For breakfast I’ll have 3 or 4 scrambled egg whites with ground turkey and tomatoes or a bowl of oatmeal with fresh blueberries.
A mid-morning snack may be 10 raw almonds, some apple slices with natural peanut butter, a cup of non-fat yogurt, a slice of whole grain bread with almond or cashew butter (Ezekiel bread is the best) or a protein bar. I’ll have two snacks between meals, but guys can have three because they need more calories.
Lunch will usually be a salad with grilled chicken, turkey or fish and some chickpeas and kidney beans thrown in. I use a dressing made of flaxseed oil and my favorite vinegar. But if you’re trying to cut down on sugar, I’d avoid balsamic.
Dinner is similar – broiled chicken or fish plus a steamed green vegetable and a serving of brown rice. If I need dessert I’ll have a small piece of fruit or some berries.
Just make sure you get a sufficient amount of lean protein and high quality carbs in there. I usually avoid grapes, watermelon and carrots if I’m training, as they’re high in natural sugar. I also use a food scale and have a measuring cup handy to measure portion sizes. Some things can be prepared in advance like grilled chicken to throw into a salad for an easy meal. And you can buy egg whites by the 1/2 gallon, so you can just pour and cook when ready. Having non-stick cooking spray handy to cook things in a pan is also a good idea. Hope this helps!
Fried chicken, potato chips and onion dip with fresh veggies for good health !
